John Hevey was born in Athenry, Galway, Ireland and attested for the Coldstream Guards on 9th August 1898. He served in South Africa from 21st October 1899 until his death from Enteric Fever at Middleburgh 19th October 1900. He was Mentioned in Despatches in Earl Roberts Despatch of September 4th, 1901, London Gazette - 10th September 1901 - 1870 Private J. Hevey (deceased).
