No, John King appears not to have been entitled, having actually served in South Africa only until October 1900, although, a reservist, recalled for the Anglo Boer War, he had joined the Army back in 1890,so his days on the veldt would have been numbered due to his imminent discharge.
Whilst no physical wounds are shown, he was certainly a most interesting recipient, with both very good conduct as well as very considerable service within four regiments, including both Foreign and actual Campaign Service and certainly worthy of research.
He was discharged in Edinburgh on the 5th of June 1901, medically unfit, despite that, his intended address is far more telling and certainly potentially very sad indeed, being The Asylum, Hanwell W (west) Middlesex, which became St Bernard's Hospital.

Perhaps the Forum could help me again.

I have a pair of medals to 4311 Pte J King
India GSM to 4311 Pte J King 4th Dragoon Guards
QSA 4311 Pte J King 2nd Dragoons
Clasps CC. OFS. Transvaal.

My question is on the QSA was he entitled to the 1901/2 clasps?

Thank you
Nic

Nic,

That sounds an interesting QSA to acquire. You are going to be busy with research.

QS (3) RoK Paar Drie (Lieut F. Swetenham 2/Drgns);
1902 Coronation Medal

Major Foster Swetenham was killed in action on 28th August 1914 and is buried in Moy-De-L'Aisne Communal Cemetery (only 7 CWGC casualties in this cemetery).

With quantity of copied research, photo of grave and book "A Frenchman in Khaki" by Paul Maze. Paul Maze was an interpreter attached to the British who was arrested on suspicion of being a spy whose life was saved when Swetenham rode by and recognised him. On getting Maze released, he told him he was going to be shot. Swetenham was killed just a few hours later in a small action near Cerizy. The book is dedicated in his memory.

He was educated at Eton, commissioned 9/12/96, promoted Lieut 12/4/99, Capt 4/12/01, Adjt Ayrshire Yeo 1906, landed France 16/8/14, award of Coronation confirmed on papers.
