Born 18th April 1852 at 3 Park Street, South Hackney, the son of William Herbert and Ellen Herbert nee Girling. Saw service with the Leinster Regiment in between June 1903 and September 1904.

CMG London Gazette 3 June 1916.
MID London Gazette 15 June 1916 and 24 December 1917.

George Vawdrey was born in July 1872, and initially commissioned into the Leicestershire Regiment. He transferred as Second Lieutenant to the Army Service Corps in April 1893. Vawdrey served with the Army Service Corps during the Second Boer War (Brevet Major).

He advanced to Major in April 1905, and served during the Great War in the French theatre of war from 22 August 1914. Vawdrey served as Assistant Director of Transport, Headquarters of Administrative Services and Departments, and retired as Colonel in January 1919.

Captain Charles Morris Kemble, Army Service Corps, ‘died of enteric at Bloemfontein March 29th, 1900. He was the son of C. A. Kemble, Esq., was born June, 1870, and educated at Haileybury. He entered the Yorkshire Regt. from the Glamorgan Artillery, was promoted lieut. Dec., 1893, and transferred to the Army Service Corps, April, 1894, being made capt. Sept., 1898. Capt. Kemble married September 1896, Freda, daughter of Capt. Webber, 45th Regt. He served in the Nile Expedition of 1898, and was present at the battle of Khartoum, being awarded the Medal and the Egyptian medal with clasp. Capt. Kemble embarked for South Africa Oct., 1899’ (The Last Post by Mildred D. Dooner refers).
