Attached 8th Mounted Infantry. Wounded at Kaalfontein 31/10/1900. Prisoner of War on 31/10/1900 at Kaalfontein. Released on 1/11/1900.

Army LS&GC GV 1st issue (3828 Sjt. W. Coldwell Ches. R.)

William Coldwell was born in Philadelphia, United States of America, and attested for the Cheshire Regiment at Sheffield, Yorkshire, on 12 August 1892, having previously served in the 3rd (Militia) Battalion, Yorkshire Light Infantry.

He served with the Cheshire Regiment in South Africa during the Boer War, and was discharged on 11 August 1913, after 21 years’ service.

Following the outbreak of the Great War he re-enlisted into the South Lancashire Regiment on 24 September 1914, and after a spell in the Depot and then a Training Reserve Battalion, was posted to 9th Battalion, serving with the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force from 1 January 1917 to 8 March 1919.

1914‑15 Star, (18688 Pte F. C. Gregory. Ches: R.);
British War and Victory Medals, (18688 Pte. F.C. Gregory. Ches. R.);
Memorial Plaque (Fred Crossland Gregory)

Private Fred Crossland Gregory landed in France on the 11th of January 1915. He died of Wounds on the 19th of April 1915 and is buried in Bedford House Cemetery, Enclosure No.2 Plot V Row A Grave 49, near Ypres.

He was the son of Gregory George and Anne Gregory and husband of Sarah Alice Gregory of 80, Stamford Park Road, Hale, Cheshire.

Sold with original bestowal letters for the 1914‑15 Star and British War and Victory Medals, original card boxes of issue and Commonwealth War Graves Commission details.
