I have just been to visit my mother Lindsay Macmillan
- the niece of Robert Macmillan . Robert was her father's brother . Quite extraordinary living connection with this medal..and the Anglo-Boer war .. We were wondering if we could kindly request buying the medal for the family

M&E say C Hanney of Marshall’s Horse is confirmed on the medal roll (name given as ‘Harvey’) one of only three members of the corps entitled to the ‘Paardeberg’ clasp, later served with the Western Province Mounted Rifles.

British War and Bilingual Victory Medals (Pte S. Chittenden. 7th S.A.I.)

Memorial Plaque, 1914-1919 (Herbert Chittenden), with original card envelope

British War and Bilingual Victory Medals (Sjt L. G. Williams. 7th S.A.I.)

Described as:

J. M. Chittenden of Marshall’s Horse is confirmed on the medal roll, and also served with Uitenhage Town Guard. He was an uncle to S. Chittenden.

3643 Private Stuart Chittenden was next to Sergeant Williams when he was killed in action, Chittenden was also dangerousy wounded in the same action (11 March, 1916), and subsequently married William’s widow.

3641 Private Herbert Chittenden was killed in action at the Battle of Salaita Hill on 11 March 1916 and is buried in the Taveta Military Cemetery, Kenya, he was also an uncle to S. Chittenden.

378 Sergeant Leslie Gordon Williams is marked in research offered with the lot as ‘friends’ with Pte. S. Chittenden, but cannot currently be traced on the C.W.G.C. site.
