This recent purchase arrived today - there were only ever 8 QSA's issued to the Ladybrand Town Guard, making it a rarity, and this is one of them.

I missed out on it when it came up for auction 3 years ago and wasn't going to let it pass me by again. Richard Reynolds was a Merchant in the town and, according to Boer sources, a "Joiner" in the Boer War.

He was taken POW by the British forces at Colesberg on 4 February 1900 while fighting for the Boers.

Rory,

A very nice item. It you come across any information relating to (his relative?) J Reynolds, I would be very interested to hear.

Here you go David www.wmbr.org.za/view.asp?pg=research&pgs...tabases&head1=Search

You are in luck with J Reynolds - he completed a Claim for Compensation from Ladybrand in 1903 (see below) - I would help out but this is in Pretoria and you would have to use a researcher. It is well worth the effort though.

I will e-mail you other biographical material iro the family.

Regards
