George Dunn, born 1878, served on the gunboat HMS Partridge in South Africa, then in China.

He was mobilised from the Royal Fleet Reserve in August 1914 and was one of 70 survivors when Hawke was sunk by U9, which had already sunk three cruisers. He then served on HMS Cornwallis, which took part in the Dardanelles bombardment of February 1915 and the evacuation of ANZAC beaches in December. He also served on land at this time. He was again a survivor when Cornwallis was torpedoed off Malta. Drafted to Orama in an Atlantic convoy, he survived a third sinking by U-boat torpedo in October 1917.
