Medals to the St Helena Volunteer Sharpshooters are very rarely seen.

An example, named to M Bennett sold yesterday on eBay for £510.

I have only noted two examples.

Here is another, pictured with the medal of Burger J A C DIRKER . Did these 2 men ever meet?
I believe that there is probably about 27 medals named to the St. Helena Sharpshooters these being the men who stayed on the island to guard the Boers. Those who served abroad being attached to ASC etc. and medal named to these units.

I just love the appellation of "Sharpshooter' to someone who was essentially, a POW guard, hardly in the path of mortal danger....
