Described as:

Queen’s South Africa Medal to Private Manklow of the 18th Hussars, who was reported missing on 29th July 1901. Queen’s South Africa Medal (1899) with 3 clasps ORANGE FREE STATE, LAINGS NEK, BELAST, period engraved 4953 Pte N. MANKLON. 18/ Hrs. Comes with copy of medals rolls and extract of the action on the 29/7/1901 when he was ‘missing in action’. Private Manklow was possibly a time expired soldier who was recalled for the Boer War, the 18th Hussars unit history in South Africa by Major Charles Burnett, records him as one of the men who joined the Regiment after the Siege of Ladysmith.

QSA (4) Orange Free State, Laing's Nek, Belfast, South Africa 1902 (3797. Pte: W. Nicholls. 18/Hrs:), officially engraved

Killed in action at Roodepoort, 2 February 1901.

The supplementary roll (WO100/118p296) clearly shows entitlement to the SA01 clasp.

QSA (2) Relief of Kimberley, Orange Free State (3418. Pte. F. Graves. 18/Hrs.)

Francis Graves was born in Bristol in 1869. He joined the 18th Hussars in 1889, and served in South Africa from 21 November 1899 to 5 May 1900, he was severely wounded at Klips Drift, Kraal on 16 February 1900, and was subsequently discharged from service on 25 September 1900 having served 11 years 138 days with the Colours.

Sold for a hammer price of GBP 280. Total GBP 347. R 7,630. AUD 650. NZD 720. CAD 590. USD 420. EUR 400.
