Thanks AR,

Back online after the long weekend.

I guess you are correct about the Winterbach genealogy.

Now to dig deeper and to work out in what way they were perhaps related to the Johan Carel Winterbach who served as Kommandant of the Barberton Police.

There are 5 Winterbach's listed in the Find My Past listings.....

2 for P. J. Winterbach
and
2 for N. J. V. D. W. Winterbach

One each for the Worchester D.M.T. and one each for F.I.D.

Also one for the following:

First name(s) J
Last name Winterbach
Rank Unknown
Regiment Press Censors Department
Country Great Britain
Service number - None
Rolls WO100/301
Record set Anglo-Boer War Records 1899-1902
Category Military, armed forces & conflict
Subcategory Boer Wars
Collections from Great Britain, UK None
Year 1899-1902

Wonder if he was a member of the family because of the last name....

Hi all,

I'm new to this forum and came across this interesting thread. I'm researching my family history, the Winterbach family tree, and while looking into my great-grandfather, Peter (Pieter) Johannes Winterbach, I found what I believe to be part of his military record along with these medals. I'm very interested in learning more about them and where you're finding your information, as I'd love to explore similar sources.

My grandfather served in the Royal Navy during WWII and later in the South African Navy. As a military veteran myself, I have a strong interest in understanding the history behind these medals—possibly connected to my great-grandfather—and would appreciate any insights. I'd also love to connect with anyone who may have more details or knowledge to share.

Thanks in advance!

Good Afternoon sw031.....

You have me a little confused, you state that "what I believe to be part of his military record along with these medals" does that mean that you have some of his documents and the same medals that I have????? That would mean that one or the other set of medals is a duplicate issue or replacement for lost medals.....

The information that I have shown in the first post came with the purchase the balance from fellow members (they are great with sharing here I must say that) and what I could find in the "findmypast" website.....

Mike

P.S. I also did service with the RCN and the CAF(N)......

Hi Mike,

My apologies, I can see how my message was confusing! I don't have the actual medals, I have an electronic copy of his military record that mentions the medals and a lot of the same info in this thread matches up with what I've learned about my great grandfather through my research. I'd love to connect with you sometime if you're up for it.

I served with the Royal Marine Commandos after growing up in South Africa.
