Hello WGoodwin
I don't believe that the ASC gentleman was your Great Grandfather.
S Weight A S C 11701 Sergeant.
Born in London, a Baker by trade. Attested in 1894
He was serving in the 44th Company Army Service Corps when he died in Pretoria in 1903.
His QSA was awarded with clasps for Belfast, Cape Colony & Orange Free State. Along with his KSA. He left £181 pounds 6 shillings and 6 pence to his half brother George.

Dave........

Dave beat me to it. I was about to post the same information.
A small but significant extra bit of information is that number 11701 ASC would have been allocated on 4/5 July 1894

I should also note that the nominal roll Kaffrarian Rifles page 58 records number 801 as S H Wright

Many thanks.

This clears it up for me. Not the same person and seems 1903 dates and locality just a coincidence.

I can confirm that the Kaffrarian Rifles nominal roll should list (801) as Private S.H. Weight (not Wright).

See attached combined photo of his QSA medal rim.
