Thank you! I am going to scour the internet to see if I can find more photos of the NS.
I am unsure how long he would be been with them for. It says he left the camp in 03/01/1902 unless I am reading it wrong.

Thanks for the info

Nadine,
here's another photo copied from a book, captioned: 'No 5 Wing of the Transvaal Scouts, commanded by A P Cronje [on the white horse in the front row]'
I don't know of any other photos of the NS.
I also attach the short write-up in Tylden.
Rob

It makes upsetting reading to learn about the Standerton Concentration Camp:
www2.lib.uct.ac.za/mss/bccd/Histories/Standerton/
This was one of the camps where rations were witheld if the family were 'troublesome'.
This is the place your GGF Petrus Wilhelemus Benjamin Britz, aged 41, left to join the NS/ He had watched over the course of a fortnight the deaths of his little boys Henning Petrus Jonathan aged 6, Petrus Wilhelemus Benjamin aged 3, and his baby boy Barend Hendrik aged 5 months.
One can only imagine the conditions among the 2000 inmates in the Black concentration camp alongside; the British didn't keep records of Black deaths.
The past is not dead. In fact, it's not even past.
