Thank you Smethwick - I too came up empty handed apropos a photo of Alexander. Like his brother, Alexander also served in the Calcutta Light Horse. I wonder if there aren't officer photos of them in the Indian Archives?

Regards

Rory

Rory - it is surprising that no photo of Alexander is findable. My Smethwickians have not led me to try and breach the Indian Archives so can't help you on that one!

I assume you are aware that he appears on a good number of Public Family Trees on Ancestry. One of them is created by a Rosaline Crum who appears to be his grand-daughter. Might be worth messaging her and I am sure she would appreciate a copy of your write-up especially as she does not seem to be aware of his second marriage.

Another FT has a manifest of a PO liner arriving in England from India in 1933 attached to his profile. An Alexander Crum, travelling 1st Class, aged 66 and a "Retired Officer" is listed. Closer examination shows he embarked in Gibraltar and Norah is not listed, unless he made her travel 3rd Class!

Regards, David.

Crum's granddaughter responded to my efforts to reach out and I was rewarded with a few photos of him with some more information in the post to me. A charming and delightful lady who was very cooperative and who enjoyed my puny attempt at bringing her long-departed granddad to life.

I have also reposted the story and, hopefully, the photo gremlin will stay at bay.

Regards

Rory
