I'm pretty sure UK privacy laws cease to apply after death, so it sounds like a lame excuse to me.

I think Christian Scientists can be quite secretive, due to their controversial brand of Christianity. A relation of mine practised the religion and was viewed by my mother's and grandparents' generation as being eccentric in the extreme..... After all, she wore plimsoles, then considered utterly unsuitable everyday footwear for a woman...!!

I remember my mother telling me about the mysterious black box my cousin took everywhere with her. She would pray over it to heal those around her.

Don't think Nancy Astor ever wore plimsolls but she was noted for giving Churchill as good as she got across the floor of the House.

The Third Church Christ, Scientist were obviously a miserable lot and I think Neville is correct.

Anyway Mike, I have about 10 documents in my Beatrice Wells computer folder - happy to email them to you if you let me have your email address via the pm system.

On doing some digging I have found that there was a Miss Beatrice Wells who used give performances to the wounded soldiers in the field hospitals in SA...... Have not yet found a positive connection with my Miss Wells and the performer if there is a connection she could have been one of the early ENSA or USO type organizations..... She may also have helped in the hospitals where she performed.....
