QSA (3) Orange Free State, Defence of Mafeking, Transvaal (245 Serjt: J. G. Munro. Protect: Regt. F.F.)

Sergeant Joseph Geddes Munro. Born Deskford, Banffshire, Scotland, 27 November 1857, son of Alexander Geddes. Resided in Natal in 1885. Enlisted in the PRFF 17 August 1899 and posted to B Squadron. Promoted for signalling work (29 November). Discharged 16 October 1900. Address after discharge: Marine Road, Sea Point, Cape Town. Constable, Royal Navy Dockyard Staff, Simon's Town, Cape Colony. Drowned at Simon's Town, 30 August 1901. Buried in plot NR32/2. British Battles and Medals, 7th Edition, 2006, connects this man with service in the 1st Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, 1882-85 (Private) (unverified)

QSA (3) Orange Free State, Defence of Mafeking, Transvaal (163 Tpr: I. Dover. Prot: Rgt:) officially re-impressed naming

Isaac Dover. Born in Bradford, Yorkshire in 1881, son of John and Susanna Dover. Enlisted in the PRFF 23 August 1899 and posted to D Squadron. Age 18. Nationality: English. Trade: Mason. NOK: Mother, Tyne Street, East London. Discharged 16 October 1900. Character very good. Also served Special Squadron StH 20 February to 15 July 1902. 5'2". Dark complexion, brown eyes, black hair, no marks. Single. SA02 from StH.

Enlisted in Cape Town in D Company, 4th SAI (147 Private), 24 July 1915. Present at Delville Wood. Slightly wounded, 20 April 1818. He claimed 16 months' service with the Protectorate Regiment, 6 months with Steinaecker's Horse, 8 months with the KR, 8 months with the Pretoria Regiment, 4 weeks with Brand's Horse and 2 months with the Infantry Training Battalion. His mother, Mrs Broomfield, resided at 7 Church Street, Pretoria c 1915.

He married Ada Elizabeth Bloomfield in Cape Town, 12 September 1929, when he was 49 and she was 19. They both resided at 51 Duke Street, Woodstock, at the time. Two children were born, in 1931 and 1933.

He died 23 June 1935, aged 55. He was described as a retired stone mason who resided at 199 Christoffel Street, Pretoria.
