Hello to Everyone

Firstly, please excuse me if I inadvertently place my Post/query in the wrong category heading. I am aware that my relative, Private Robert J. Pickavance, 5th Dragoon Guards, Regimental Number: 3390 served in The Boer War and received the following Clasps: Orange Free State and Transvaal.

Could Members be kind enough to let me know where I may locate further information pertaining to Robert and his Regiment/5th Dragoon Guards please? I am desperately trying to locate a photograph of my relative, as he was a longstanding Soldier from the age of 17 up to the age of 41 when he re enlisted in The Great War.

Many thanks for your consideration and time regarding my query.

Kind regards

Suzieq08

Hello,
I should take a look at the RDG museum at Tower Street York, the Royal Dragoon Guards are the result of an amalgam of regiments that include the 5th Dragoon Guards, I have been there quite a few years ago now and they did have much stuff from both the 18th and 19th Century, I'm sure a letter to them would be the way to start off!
Good luck
Frank

Good Evening Frank

Thank you so much for that wonderful piece of information - I really do thank both yourself and 'QSAMIKE' for taking the time to help me on my Military journey.

I shall contact the RDG Museum and will, as a mater of courtesy, update the Members here if I am successful in my search for my relative, Private Robert J. Pickavance 1873- 1947, Liverpool.

Sincere thanks

Suzie

Hi Suzieq08

A warm welcome to the Forum.
I have looked for your relative on Find My Past but no service papers are recorded.
I did note that Robert was awarded an extra clasp to his QSA that you have not noted:
A Reservist.
The Queen's South Africa (QSA) Medal Clasps: Orange Free State, Transvaal and NATAL This from a medal roll source on Find My Past.
Hope this helps.
