Gentlemen,
I recently spent an couple of hours with a copy of City Coins Postal Auction 57 catalogue which dates from 2007.
I can recomend this particular catalogue to anyone who is interested in the medals awarded to the "other" side which is not often discussed on here, not for the sale content of this list (which was good!) but for the really superb seven page article written by Henk Loots.
I thought that I knew pretty much all that was worth knowing about these awards , but this article proved me very wrong!
Henk goes into great detail and provides helpful photographs of the differing types of naming which I am sure will be of great help to many forum members, it certainly was for me and I now look upon my tiny collection in a whole new light.
I would like to take this opportunity to pay tribute on here to Henk for taking the time to put together a such good article which will benefit many of us!

The original article appeared in the OMRS "Miscellany of Honours" No 9 in 1992. It contained additional material on the reactions of the English press in SA to the issue of the medal, as well as a full list of ABO medals awarded to women.

Hello Henk,
I will see if I can get hold of a copy of that OMRS journal, my collection of awards to the various Boer commando is very small and I now regret not buying more back in the 1990's, you could go out here and buy a nice ABO for as little as £60 and like everything else in those days, they were around in reasonable quantity too.
I got a surprise at the centenary sale at Spink thirteen years ago, when an example to the Scandinavian Corps sold for £450 on the hammer!
I wish it was me that had bought it now, did not realise just how rare they actually are, at the time, I thought "oh well, I'll find another" but of course, I never have!
I do have a couple to members of the German Commando, POW's at Elandlaagte and I suppose these would be my favourites!
Many thanks again Henk, this is a very good area to collect I think and though speaking as an Englishman, I would say a great many of these men were very exceptional soldiers.
