I have recently come across a QSA medal with the following details.

No 13 CY Sgt Mjr D.A Ford 10th Compy Imp Yeo

There are 6 bars - Laings Nek, Trans, Rel of Ladysmith, OFS, Tugela Hgts, CC

I'm aware that this chap must have fought with the Imperial Yeomanry (3rd Batt, 10th Comp) but the fact he has Laings Nek clasp and does not appear on any records baffles me

I would appreciate any further help or support in finding this chap.

Hi,

This man is proving to be a little troublesome. There are 7 people listed on Ancestry with the surname Ford and D as one of the initials. None of these is your man. I then went through the roll for the 10th Co IY and failed to find him. The NCOs were listed with 5 digit regimental numbers too.

Is it possible for you to post a picture of the naming of the medal?

Best wishes
David

Hello,

The Natal (TH,RoL and LN) bars and naming all wrong for the Imperial Yeomanry.

There should be a service number on the medal too.

The lack of service number and Laings Nek bar has stumped me but I am 100% confident that the medal itself is genuine. Have attached pics which shows name, not great quality but should help identify.

Hi TC

The medal maybe original but the naming shown is not. The medal has been re-named.

Is renaming a coomon occurence? Why would somebody do this? Sorry if sounds naive but I don't understand why somebody would go to such lengths especially as it is easy enough to research and dissprove.

Kind regards
