My Goodness, what quick replies!!!
Thanks Henk, Frank and David.
I'll lookup the citations that went with his QSA and look for contemporary accounts or reports on his final battle at Koornfontein on Aug 28, 01.

Hello Frank,
Unfortunately no.
I just have his Webley revolver. Wouldn't it be an ordinary QSA with his name on it?
Where is the best source for accounts of that battle at Koornfontein on 28 Aug 01? So far on this site I can find no mention of a third Battalion.

In your earlier reply, between his name and his unit you typed MI.. What does that stand for?
Thanks

Hi Doug,
MI is just Mounted Infantry, so he was serving with their MI Company, yes, just another QSA, but with his name on it and I think your webley hoster is a nice thing to have! :woohoo:
Have to think about the 28th August though.
Best Regards Frank

Hello Doug

According to the casualty rolls there was only two casualties at Koornfontein, Graham on the 28th and a Pte Thackray the next day. So, no battle just a skirmish at best or simply a good Boer sniper.

To find out what happened you will need to do some careful reading of a regimental history (not sure there is one covering the 3rd bn Northumberland Fus), newspapers and the good contemporary histories.

Hello Meurig,
Many thanks for your reply Re: Lt. Grahams wounding.
Your reply generated more questions however...
Where does it say 3rd. Btn.? Or we're the Mtd. Infantry always Btn. 3?
How do I access and copy those casualty rolls?
Where do I go, online, to find the regimental histories??
Now, if I can just find a photo of him. (just dreaming)
Doug
