The 2nd Madras Lancers were precluded from sending horses to South Africa because of glanders amongst the horses. The 1st & 3rd sent a large contingent to accompany 50 horses from each regiment.

Chappaye was prehaps one of 15 syce & 5 naiks that I presume accompanied that 1st draft of horses from the 1st & 3rd Madras Lancers.. A second draft of the 2nd Madras Lances followed in 1902 & were based in Stellenbosch it would seem. Chappaye in entitled to the "Cape Colony" & "Orange Free State" as well as the KSA..

Naiks wearing the Burma Medal & it seems to me, the QSA with one clasp "South Africa 1902"

QSA (7 Muleteer Miran Buhc (?)).

Woolley and Wallis say 'shallow striations behind bust, otherwise good very fine. A Miran Bux appears on the roll for the Bronze Medal.'
