The men of the 48th who joined the PTC in June 1900 can't have been in the country longer than 6 months.

I can't see why front line troops were moved en-bloc to the PTC, unless it was an attachment and these chaps did police duties while stationed in the Transvaal.

Lord Roberts already had a bodyguard, which became the Commander-in-Chief's Bodyguard.

The 48th arrived in SA in March 1900 and accompanied Bobs on his march to Pretoria. When were the C in C's bodyguard formed? I thought they were colonials and formed later.

Paul,

Lord Roberts announced his intention to form the CinCBG on 14 Jan 00.

Here's a different badge. Have you seen this one before? www.britishbadgeforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9353

Regarding Frank Edward Ovens of the Wincanton Troop > 48th Company IY > Provisional Transvaal Constabulary > Kitchener's Flying Scouts.

From the Western Gazette of 12th January 1900.

The Dolphin Inn at Wincanton still stands.

Much more to come on "Bobs" Escort when I have sorted all my gathered information into a sensible order.
