Yes, I suppose I could make do with any of those QSAs!

David,
Whilst these medals are all superb, let us not forget just how nice a good honest medal is, that actually has a Talana or Elandslaagte clasp, attached to it, they all mean something and from my point of view are all special!
I remember feeling very satisfied when I got my first examples!
Regards Frank

For the presentation I am preparing for the Dundee Conference, I had to use Photoshop to create this image of a QSA with Talana and Elandslaagte. While we wait to see the real thing, here is a taste of what it will look like.

Good morning.
I would appreciate some assistance from the Forum.
I recently acquired a QSA to a certain Trooper H.E.Smith (Imperial Light Horse - No 360) / French's Scouts and BSAP) with the following clasps - Elandslaagte, Defence of Ladysmith, Relief of Mafeking, Transvaal.
According to Dr Biggins - Elandslaagte Publication, this fellow is mentioned but there is a note that says he is due an additional two clasps - OFS and TALANA. However, he does not appear in the Talana publication by Dr Biggins.
I have found the rolls which do indicate the above but with all the talk about rare combinations I'm still not convinced. I also note on the forum there are ineligible Talana clasps - could this person be one of these.
Many thanks in anticipation.

Goose,

This is certainly an interesting medal. After the ILH, Herber Edgar Smith served in French's Scouts and it is only on this roll that the Talana clasp is indicated.

He entry on the ILH roll shows the more probably Elandslaagte

He is listed in my Elandslaagte book as being ticked for Talana and excluded from the entitlement section of the Talana book in the later belief that Talana was a mistake on the French's Scouts roll.

Elandslaagte, DoL and RoM to the ILH is a rare and much sought after combination.

Kind regards
David

I too, would have thought that to have been an error and nothing more.
