If this group of medals should disappear from Rory's collection, the list of suspects may be long, but there will be no doubt about who will head the list.

Gentlemen,
With regards to the 1906 Natal medal, would I be right in assuming that those medals impressed, Transvaal Mounted Rifles, were actually awarded to members of the existing units in the Transvaal Volunteers, such as the South Africa Light Horse etc.

That is so. I was once offered a group in which the Rebellion medal was named to a man in the ILH. I turned it down and bought a Natal Carbineers group instead. While the NC group has not disappointed, I do regret missing the chance of getting the ILH group.

Rory

You are too kind! I knew that you would see sense one day and pass the group on to where it belongs. I will leave my forwarding address with my next-of-kin. I hope that the medals and papers will survive the high temperatures in their new home.

Good morning Brett,
Yes, many thanks, I do seem to remember reading it somewhere, it was perhaps in Major Tylden's book.
I always tried to buy the 1906 medal with something else, which is the reason I don't have a Transvaal Mounted Rifles! :(
Must try and get one,
Regards Frank

A casual glance through the 1911 issues of the NP magazine "The Nonquai" revealed a photo of JCH Harrison and all the other NP casualties of the unfortunate Bambatha Rebellion.

This is an absolute bonus as I always try to get an image of the recipient.

I've updated my post with his photo and the larger photo which includes all the NP casualties.

Perhaps a member here has some medals to some of these chaps?

Regards

Rory
