There are a famous set of volumes, A history of the British Cavalry, by the Marquis of Anglesey, all available still, moreover, a look at older published regimental histories of both regts would be worthwhile, as would a visit to the NAM Chelsea.
To be quite honest I feel that with his papers in WO97 and his QSA/KSA entries in WO100, you have got all you are going to find, that refers to him in person and its a lot more than many other people will have or indeed will ever have.
Have a look at John Stirlings book on this site or just go into Unit Information, Imperial Units and then click on both regts.

Excellent stuff Frank.

Mum's Grandfather was at the Battle of Spion Kop & I've managed to furnish her with a lot of information about that, especially an excellent Youtube nine part series that I found. But that's another story.

Again, many thanks.

Hello Mike,
I will stick to my original thoughts on that particular medal, I think it was a good buy!
Regards Frank

Frank, can't find John Sirlings book. Hint please.

Anything else about Remount Depots? This looks about right from what Dad has said. I've tried a Google search & the first thing that comes up is an ebay listing for a page out of a book from 1901. Looks as if it might be quite interesting to read but not paying for it. Can't find the book anywhere.

Am I better off starting a new thread about Remount Depot's?

Thanks, Martin

John Stirling is here on this site, click on Unit Information, Imperial Units and then the regt you want i.e. 5th Dragoon Guards, the text comes from Stirling.
There were a good few Remount Depots in South Africa during the war because the army got through a very high number of horses, also you might like to read Mike's Post and click on the link he has shown.
