Hello Paul,
Archived newspapers are a good source of information, of course, newspapers have always been worth their weight in gold, but, in the good old days, you had to physically turn the actual pages, all too easy now and not as rewarding.
Anyway Paul, I like the medal and as I once said to you, it talks, you are not left wondering what a fellow actually did, so always worth paying a little more for, I should be very pleased with that if I were you, moreover, it is, as just a QSA, toned and attractive!
Now then Paul, I see that you are begining to think a little like me, a most disturbing developement, though, I must confess that I have not resorted to google just yet.
I once bought a DCM trio to a gentleman who settled in my home town just for that reason and no other, after more research, the decoration turned out to be quite spectacular, but, that was just a bonus, I wanted it because he was local to me.

I still prefer the old fashioned way, I wonder what Rouse would make of PVC and rendering.

Just a few months ago, I found myself doing just the same for Brett, but alas, the address concerned was and indeed, had been, for many years, used for a commercial business and had been stripped of all its internal Victorian fixtures and fittings,
even the wretched garden had gone forever,   ,but, I did make quite sure, before I decided that further photography was pointless, infact, I went to rather unusual lengths, inspecting both the cellar and attic space, the current owner was rather bemused I think!
All very disapointing :( , but, if you don't ask, you don't get! :)

Carry on Paul and don't forget the western front, Magersfontein, that is where you should be, get a medal to a fellow who was there!
Kind regards Frank

Frank did indeed go to great lengths to record the neighbourhood of Burton on Trent where Trooper H C Gorton, ILH, was born and raised. The results are a significant addition to Gorton's short life story. By contrast, records of his few years in the Transvaal and Natal are thin and proof again that those of you who live in civilised countries are very fortunate.

Regards
Brett

Morning Frank,
And thank you for your kind comments.
I always find the research as rewarding as aquiring the medal, the residence's with this one was a bonus because of the locality.
I agree I also like a nice toned medal so this one "ticked all the boxes" so to speak.
Magersfontein, something to look out for then ;)

Cheers
Paul :)

Hello Brett,
Yes any extra research that can be found is always rewarding.
"and proof again that those of you who live in civilised countries are very fortunate." Brett I think we take this all too much for granted.

Cheers
Paul :)

Hi Paul,
Just carry on buying good honest medals as cheap as you can find them, yes, if you have not got a Magersfontein casualty, I would try and get one as and when if I were you.
Kind regards Frank
