I recently purchased a Queens South Africa medal issued to 61 W C Mitchell 3rd CL TPR SAC.
It seems his full name was William Charles Mitchell as per the medal entitlement registry (copy attached).
He also may be the same WC Mitchell who was a head constable in the South African Police. This WC Mitchell was killed along with 4 other police officers by Stephanus Swart in 1927.
I cannot find any birth date or birth location for trooper Mitchell.
Can anyone help me with this?

As a collector, first prize is to be able to put a picture to a name. I was very fortunate to be contacted by the family of William Walsh who sent me this photo of him in later years. Their guess is that it's an old passport photo circa the time of his retirement.
