Not a hop garden nor a brewery in sight. On a hot day in Stellenbosch it is the gift of the noble grain that is required and not that of the frivolous vine.

But yes - seeing the area with new eyes was worth the deprivation.
I have subsequently ordered reports from Kew - lets see what arrives in the post.
Looking for Salutries, Salootries and Veterinary Duffadars.
I collect primarily QSAs to Indian Recipients.

David, I was pleased to read that we have another interest in common! A little of Stellenbosch's product is imbibed supposedly to preserve my failing eyesight. It isn't working, whereas life-giving ale is serving its purpose (so far).

'The care of horses in South Africa: An antiseptic bath at Stellenbosch

'Horses at the front' writes a correspondent 'receive the greatest attention' At the Stellenbosch Remount Depot they have undergone an elaborate medicinal treatment for the cure of skin disease. An immense bath to contain antiseptic fluid has been constructed there and the animals are made to go through it. Indian natives manipulate the horses under the supervision of a veterinary officer'

The Graphic 17 November 1900

Investigating what happened to the bath sounds like the perfect reason for a return visit, David?
