Fort Napier was established on 31 August 1843 to house the garrison in Natal after being annexed by Britain. The 45th Regiment provided the first garrison and the fort was important in the Zulu and Boer Wars.

It ceased to be a British garrison in 1914 when it was used an internment camp during the Great War. Afterwards the fort was passed to the health service where it is not Fort Napier Hospital.

This was the officers' mess, now in a state of disrepair.

There is a Boer War era Krupp cannon near the base of the tower

There are two of these pieces of equipment. Does anyone know what they are?

Although difficult to see in this picture, this was the entrance to a tunnel, supposedly connecting the fort with the Governor's residence in PMB.

Reminiscent of a cradle for a steam laundry boiler or like.

This book is worth a read.

I am sorry I was not able to get into the grounds or the Garrison church last time I was in PMB.

Little apprehensive that once I was in the psychiatric hospital they would not let me out.
Looking for Salutries, Salootries and Veterinary Duffadars.
I collect primarily QSAs to Indian Recipients.
