A town in the Eastern Cape, located in the upper valley of the Great Kei River in a farming community. It was founded by Sir George Cathcart in 1853 and had a defensive, hexagonal design (which never needed to be tested). Towering over Queenstown is the Hangklip Mountain.

The town provided several units during the Boer War:

Queenstown Town Guard
Queenstown District Mounted Troops
Queenstown Rifle Volunteers
Queenstown Mounted Infantry
