Temporary railway bridge made by the Royal Engineers at Modder River.

In a very short time after the battle of Modder River, and with a view of quickly transporting stores and armaments to the little township where the General had fixed his camp, the Royal Engineers, with the aid of a few timbers and such materials as was near to hand, made cuttings on either bank and constructed a temporary bridge across the river.
