Greetings Henry

I too have an interest in KH, not in any way family related, but because I have a number of medals to them. One in particular that comes to mind is that to Ernest Bazeley (see the link here www.angloboerwar.com/forum/5-medals-and-...er-s-horse-man#54289 ) Unfortunately I have not been unable to prevail in my attempts to prise the diary Ernest kept from his great grandsons unrelenting grip. This tome might well shed insightful light on the unit's comings and goings.

This worthy lives in the far-flung reaches of the Limpopo Province of South Africa, sadly very distant from where I find myself or I would be there in a flash with my trusty phone camera, snapping away.

Your post has prompted me to renew my efforts - perhaps I must increase my pecuniary overtures.

Regards

Rory

You will probably not be surprised to hear that the KH medal roll confirms the clasps on your GF's medal (WO100/256). He was noted as Time Expired 20/12/1900.
Regarding the awarding of a Cape Colony clasp, that would have been ruled out by the award of the RofK clasp. I would not be surprised if a pic of KH exists somewhere - but to the best of my recall, I have never seen one.
Regards
IL.

Thanks Rory, if you are able to access Ernest’s diary it would make fascinating reading. Good luck in your efforts to get hold of it. I do have some notes GF wrote concerning how he came to enlist in KH and then his experiences at Paardeberg but no formal diary. I also have his discharge papers and other bit and pieces.
