Hello Maddy

Shame about that photo, I remember we had trouble making "it fit" with RGA companies that served in the war and then Mauritius.

From my records I checked the medal rolls for 89109 W.Taylor and tried to find service papers. Taylor's record is on The Register and FmP ; he served with the RFA in an ammunition column.

Regards
Meurig

Thanks for making the connection. I do subscribe to Ancestry and FMP. I am in the process of revisiting my research in the hope that there will be something new.
One of the things I have discovered is that the Mauritius connection was a false trail. The photo I posted was of my grandmother`s brother in law who did indeed serve in Mauritius. Sadly I spent a long time searching with this as one of my criteria.
You will have seen the possibility that Linneyl has given to me. That could be a good lead
Best regards
Maddy

Thanks to Meurig's clue that Sgt. Taylor served in an Ammunition Column, I sat down with a cup of tea and trawled through the Ammunition Column roll pages of my trusty RA CD. I eventually found "Sergt. Taylor W" served with No.1 Ammunition Park (a facility where artillery ammunition is serviced and stored prior to issue). Page 260 of the roll has his QSA clasp entitlement as "Cape Colony", "Orange Free State" and "Transvaal" and his medal was issued 30/4/1906. A marginal note says that he was "invalided 27/11/1900".
Let us know if all this "possibility" bears fruit.

Hello to Meurig and Linneyl.
Sadly I have to report that 89109 was Sgt WALTER Taylor not William.
However I really appreciate the time you have spent trying to help me and send my sincere thanks to you both. I have "met" some really helpful people on this forum.
Although I keep saying I will give up trying to find my Grandfather, I just seem to have to try 1 more time. But there are so many Wm. Taylors and I do not have any helpful clues.
Thank you
Maddy

A real pity that it turned out to be a different Taylor. Good luck with your further searches!
