I figure from the information above that your ancestor fought in the Scandinavian Corps under Johan Flygare. Cornelis de Jong (University of South Africa) published in 1983 two or three soft cover books (Skandinawiers in die Tweede Anglo-Boere-Oorlog) with a wealth of information about the unit. The books were published in Amsterdam under patronage of the Nederlands-Zuidafrikaanse Vereniging. Your ancestor may or may not be mentioned but at least it will give you some context. The text is in Afrikaans, perhaps the museum in Bloemfontein has a copy or could help you further.
