Larnyjeaney, if your relative applied for the Anglo Boere Orrlogsmedalje then his Vorm B may be useful.
Suggest email Dewald Nel, a professional researcher, with your request - Dewald charges a reasonable fee.

Thanks @Rob D. Apologies if these are silly questions but do you mean this is something he may have somehow applied for during the war? Since he was captured as a POW, then apparently taken by sea to Ceylon but died on the way, how or where might he have made such an application? Or do you mean his wife may have made the application instead?

Either way your information is much appreciated, thank you!

Your relative appears as a foreign volunteer but not as a POW or POW death.
In my extremely limited experience the ABO medal roll occasionally produces surprises.
I don't think Dewald charges unless he can find a Vorm B

@Rob D - based on what evidence does he not appear as a POW or a POW death? I'm taking his death notice filled-in by his wife at face-value, but still - that's my evidence to the contrary.

Either way yes I could try your contact and see what comes up.

Larnyjeaney,

Like Sturgy says:
"Another very useful website is this one: wmbr.org.za/database-search/ If your relative was taken POW then he should show up in the database.""

Good luck

I thought it might be useful for members to be able to see the death notice that declares van Brumelen died at sea on his way to Ceylon.
