I have found mention of an ancestor, GW Henry, from Kent England, who is listed as having died in Bloemfontein in 1900. I dont know if he was in a British unit, but it seems likely. I also understand that we're significant British casualties in actions around Bloemfontein over that period. How could I obtain any further information please?

In the Palmer roll, there is one "70857 Gunner G.W.Henry, 15th Coy., Southern District, RGA" who died of disease at Bloemfontein on 21/5/1900. Sounds like your ancestor. Something for you to research.

The Register shows this man as George Walter Henry, however he is listed on a memorial in Guernsey suggesting he was born or lived there.

The Register also shows this is the only G Henry to have died in the war.

Yes, he was born on Jersey, one of the Channel Islands. So that's definitely him.

Interestingly the majority of casualties during the Boer War were as a result of disease rather than warfare. In 1900 there was a huge outbreak of Enteric Fever in the Bloemfontein area which lasted for some time and devastated the British and Colonial forces, often killing men in just a few short days. Given the date of death I believe that he died of Enteric Fever (Dysentery).

Correct - enteric. Army and Navy Gazette 26 May 1900 confirms

Dysentery is a different disease.
