Hello Forum members,
I recently purchased a QSA to 5159 W.A.Simmons Royal West Surrey.
A very nice medal with clasps to Laings Nek,Transvaal,R.O.L. O.F.S. and Tulega Heights
I have found out he died of disease Feb 1901 and is buried at Newcastle but that is all I know.
Is there anyway of finding a service record or are casualties not recorded.
Would be very grateful if anyone has any information please.

Cheers
Paul :)

Welcome Paul,
It would be worth looking under the 'other information' on the site.Check graves, memorial-Newcastle page 4 will shown you his name.

Hi Elandslaagte,
Thanks for the welcome and the tip, found his name on the Newcastle memorial, would this mean he has no service papers though.

Paul,

I think you are right. I believe the papers for most if not all of the Imperial casualties were destroyed. I did have a quick look at the WO97 index on FindMyPast and confirmed he is not listed there.

Sorry!

Hi David,
That is unfortunate.
Still a very nice medal though, I now have the medal rolls with his clasp entitlements and his date of death. R.I.P.
Thank you for taking the time to research for me.

Cheers
Paul :)
