Dear All
New to this site is there anyway I can find out if my Grandfather William George Pearce was involved in the Boer war he is on the Electrol list around that time but disappears during the war would this indicate he could have been away on active service at the time he was living in Holloway london, or Tottenham
Many Thanks Neil Pearce

Neil,

There were quite a few people with the name Pearce in the Boer War but only one with the initials W G.

He served in the Imperial Yeomanry and is on the rolls for 82nd Company Imperial Yeomanry (2nd Battalion Sharpshooters) and 21st Battalion Imperial Yeomanry.

There are papers for the IY men in the National Archives and these should contain more information to confirm if this is your man.

There are lots of W Pearces on the roll so if he didn't use his second initial the search will become a lot harder.

Let us know how you get on.

Best wishes
David

Hi Neil

There are 6 pages of his service papers at the NA and on findmypast. His next of kin was his wife Susan Pearce of 50 Granleigh Road, Leytonstone. His discharge papers show his intended place of residence as Tower Villa, Granley (sic), Leytonstone.

He was entitled to a QSA with clasps Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal, South Africa 1901 & South Africa 1902.

Regards

David
