Hi Frank,

Thank you so much for taking time to reply and for your welcome.

You have the right Thomas Jarvis and it would be fantastic to find out more about his time in South Africa as well as maybe working out the answer to my initial question.

It seems he stayed on in South Africa because he joined up again in Shropshire in 1905 and the form says he was somewhere near Johannesburg in the 12 months prior. Will there be any record of why he stayed in South Africa or what he did out there?

Thanks again.

Kind regards

Debbie

Hello Debbie,
I would have thought he had been discharged in 1905 for the first time, what actually is the form that you mention here?
Regards Frank

Hi Frank,

The form is Attestation for the Militia and it says above that in pencil Re-enlisted. I have another form which says he was discharged in 1909.

Kind regards

Debbie

Debbie,
Are their any copyright or reference numbers on this form, what does it actually say at the top?
Are you saying that you know your great grand mother was Ada Gough?

Hi Frank,

It says Army Form E.504. It also says HWV 100,000 5-03 8 82 72 and A Militia 9334. On the discharge form it says Statement of the Services. It gives his number as 5045.

Ada Gough was definitely my great grandma.

Thanks.

Kind Regards

Debbie

Debbie,
Okay, I'm assuming these are copies and not the originals, moreover, I assume these people are your family, see anyone who is familiar?
