Another interesting mapping of contemporary army positions and lines of defence around Ladysmith at start of the seige can be seen at :

www.angloboerwar.com/forum/5-medals-and-...-ladysmith-combatant

A very elegant website providing up-to-date map locations with satellite views of all main historical battlesites/monuments around the seigetown and environs may be accessed at :

www.battlefieldsroute.co.za/place category/ladysmith/?sort=review

There seems to be no memorial to the 1st Gloucester Regiment involved with DoL. The Liverpools are commemorated at Tunnel Hill. Any visits to sites on outskirts of Ladysmith should be guided/accompanied as recommended on website tourist information.

Hello Mickey, My name is Mike Fox. I live in Swindon. Not too far away from Stroud. As you can detect from my posting my interest is of my grandfather Albert Fox. But, the more I've researched his time served initially within South Africa I've become interested with his total time served with the 1st Battalion, The Glosters. It would appear both of our intentions is to visit the location within South Africa where our respective Grandfather's served. Plus in your case, his final resting place. My planning is finalised. But, I'm still awaiting positive clarification of the exact location of where the Glosters were stationed within Ladysmith at the time of the defence/siege? I'm more than welcome to have a chat regards both of our visits. We maybe able to offer each other some hints/advice for our individual visit? Furthermore, not only did my Grandfather serve with the Glosters, but, my Father also enlisted into the Glosters during 1939. Kind Regards, Mike Fox.

Hello Mickey,

Please check-out this link:

warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/warmemscot-ftopic3154.html

Hopefully, if it works? A memorial dedicated to the fallen of the 2nd Battalion The Gordon Highlanders during the Boer War. The memorial is located within The All Saints Church, Ladysmith.

Scribed within is the name Major H.W.D.Denne. I believe your Grandfather??

If the link doesn't work? Please let me know and I'll try other means for you to view.

Regards,

Mike.
