Dear Nick,
I agree with David that it sounds like a very interesting project.
The information that David has provided you with relates to the first contingent of the 10th Company (Sherwood Rangers) of the 3rd Battalion Imperial Yeomanry.
27306 Trooper F.E. Lawless served with the second contingent of the Sherwood Rangers , joining on 7th May 1901 and arriving in South Africa in June 1901.
The most detailed description of the Sherwood Rangers' activities from June 1901, notably the hunt for Commandant Gideon Scheepers and his Commando, can be found on pages 82 to 96 of 'History of the 3rd Regiment Imperial Yeomanry' by R.L. Birkin (1905). Lawless is listed in the roll in the appendix with the dates given above and the remark that he died of disease at Naauwpoort on 30th December 1901.
Best wishes,
Justin
