Dear Richard,

There is a good description of the fighting on Wynne's Hill in the following book. Unfortunately I can't scan it and post the pages as that would breach the copyright, but I hope that you can find a copy in a library.

Best wishes,

Justin

Hello Justin,
I have always felt that Charles Warren seems to have been rather profligate with his men, so many were lost during this period, it must have been rather intense for those actually there.
Glad I was not one of them! :(

Here is a photograph of Lance Sergeant Hezekiah Monks - killed at Wynne's Hill on 22nd February 1900. There is an account of the battle in Red Roses on the Veldt which mentions two sergeants being killed on that day. It all looks fairly conclusive.

Thank you for all your help.

Richard

Richard,
Are you quite sure that is him?
Regards Frank

Hello Frank

I had assumed it was because of the stripes - do you think it might not be?
