Ah yes Great Uncle Sid ;)

I jest of course - he is no relative but probably Sidney William Reynolds a Transport Rider from Colenso (or he was when he married in 1890 at the age of 27)

Who was the QSA issued to in 1957? It's worth pursuing.

Regards

Rory

Re H.Loxton's DCM/QSA, see my post 21265 on Medals and Awards topic.. Forum member Ian Bowes made contributions regarding the Loxtons. Guide S.Loxton's DCM was shown in the LG of 27/ 9/01 and announced in Army Order 15/02. I have often wondered what happened to the other two DCMs!

HH Tod - no trace in the medal rolls other than Loxton's Horse - nothing either for Uncle Sid ( ;) ) - but plenty on NASA. As a transport rider I wonder he didn't serve, perhaps Ancestry's index is failing us.

There are mentions to Loxton's Horse in the British Newspaper Archive - so much for a quick blog, it seems you can't scratch the surface without coming up with something!

I've completed my history and a nominal roll for Loxton's Horse, brief as expected from the dearth of sources:

Enjoy!

Many thanks for that, Meurig - another feather in your Boer War cap!

I have been meaning to add another 'looting' reference in the Nicholson diary:
"27 July 1901
Nqutu
........ Lieutenant Rundle's troop having seen three Boers in the distance, went out to catch them but they had got wind of us, owing to Symond's looters (Symond's Horse) being out buying mealies near them, and so got away."

The (Symond's Horse) is an addition by Coghlan, and perhaps just an optimistic guess about the affiliation of the looters, who could not have been much good as looters if they were out buying mealies!

Regards
Brett
