Hello All
We are busy with our forthcoming SAC book (which has of course been forthcoming for several years!!).
On 6 July 1901, we have 2 men killed in action and two men taken prisoner during an action near Modder River.
One of the men is recorded as KIA at Lough Dearing and the other KIA and 2 POW say Lough Dearg.
Whenever I try to Google these names, I end up in Ireland!
Can anyone help with this spelling? I have also seen it spelt Loughdeerg.

Lough Dearg is a farm within Free State and is nearby to Wonderkop, Aurora and Anthill.

Latitude: 28° 53' 40.3" (28.8945°) south
Longitude: 25° 52' 16.9" (25.8714°) east
Elevation: 1,250 metres (4,101 feet)

That looks like the place because here is the course of the Modder River.

The red marker are the geographic co-ordinates given earlier.

It looks like Lough Dearg (or Loughdearg) is probably correct.

Are you aware of the several SAC men buried in a cemetery near the old Vet River station south of Theunissen in the Free State. Farm "Paardevlei" belonging to a Mr Koos Pienaar?
