Thank you for posting a very interesting link.

Steinaecker's Horse may be unique amongst Boer War regiments in the attention it has received from archaeologists. Googling 'Steinaecker's Horse excavations in the Kruger National Park' brings up several links to excavations carried out by a team from the University of Pretoria. Although its existence was brief, operating in a remote and unhealthy region has preserved some of the imprints left behind by this remarkable regiment.

Regards
Brett

Are there any journals that have articles on the excavations? Cheers, John

I feel sure that the results of the excavations must have been published. I am completely out of the academic world now, so I can't suggest any likely journal(s), but I will make enquiries.

Hi Brett,

Thanks, I enjoy reading books and articles on battlefield excavations. There was a very nice one on the Little Big Horn a few years back. There was a wild fire that destroyed much of the deep, thick foliage and so they went over the battlefield with a find tooth comb, found all sorts of artifacts, followed men who were using rifles due to the specific pattern on the shell casing and even found another trooper who if I'm not mistaken was identified. There are some interesting ones out on the Great War too. Thanks. Cheers, John

I miss having a knowledgeable and obliging librarian a few steps away from the office I once occupied. I will try to emulate her soon and hopefully get an answer for you.
