Dear Forummers
I'd be interested to see any photos of Major Johannes Lodewyk Pretorius, Transvaal Staatsartillerie.
He fought at Talana, Ladysmith, Colenso.
I attach photos of what I believe to be his Boer Mauser rifle, and his applications for ABO and DTD.

Hi Rob,
I hope you got your book off to the printers okay ...

This photograph can be found in Jaques Malan's "Die Boere-Offisiere 1899-1902" (p. 176).

That's an interesting rifle Rob. Is it owned by a museum?

Can you please tell us about your book.

Regards

Ian

Thanks so much Neville! We missed you at the shoot the other day.
Ian, the rifle is one of mine, for now at least - I'm trying to thin down the Mausers as I seem to be accumulating them,,, I've written a book on the Spioenkop campaign (Upper Tugela 17-27 Jan 1900), it is with the publishers but now they say it won't be out until a year from now...

Well, the Mauser rifle you have shown us here looks like a very special example, so thank you for sharing the photo and the documents. It's a shame about the publication date, but I shall certainly look out for its release; I'm sure that you'll let us all know here too.

Thank you also to Neville for sharing the photographs from the book. I'll have to look out for a copy of that one too.
