Queen’s South Africa, 3 bars, Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal, Private H. Quinn, 2nd Northumberland Fusiliers, on 13/12/00 he was taken Prisoner of War at the Battle of Nooitgedacht, the famous defeat of the British where 600 out of 1500 soldiers were captured, wounded or killed. If it was not for the command of Major General Clements, the entire brigade would have been wiped out. The Northumberland Fusiliers played a key part in the camp’s defence until General Beyer’s Troop became inspired and stormed the mountaintop causing over 100 casualties to the regiment and forcing Captain Yatman to surrender at about 7.00 am and any reinforcement climbing the mountain took heavy casualties as Beyer’s men then rained down with rifle fire.

Interesting - I had the 2nd Bn Northumberland Fus. QSA to P.Quinn. They were probably next to each other on parade.

It was shy of the KSA to which he was entitled and I got shot of it as a result.

Is your chap also missing a KSA?

Regards

Rory

Azyeoman,

That's a nice QSA to be linked with Nooitgedacht.

I wonder if those two were related?

Kind regards

Hello Azyeoman

Could this H. Quinn be my Great Grandfather Hugh Quinn 6804?
He died on the 19/12/00 going by my research so far.
If you could help me with any information on this i would be grateful.

Brendan
