Herewith a few snaps of my latest pre-Boer War acquisition. Alfred Emery served against Sekhukhune and the Zulus in 1879.

Very nice indeed, Rory, original silk ribband too, I like it very much, very similar to Baker's Horse, which I note has come up twice recently on here.
Ignatious Ferreira, had raised his regiment, some three times, just as Frank Baker had done, the original one for the campaign against Sekukuni in 1878, then again for the annexation of Zululand the following year, these men also took Sekukuni's wretched mountain later on.
Finally, a third time in Pretoria, following the short lived annexation of the Transvaal, it was subsequently engaged at Leribe in Basutoland, more or less until disbandment in 1881.

Thank you Frank - I'm rather chuffed with Emery, a Baker from Southampton before he came to our shores. With the 1879 clasp he would have been one of the 2nd contingent you referred to - the ones who were in Zululand and then went on to topple Sekhukhune from his perch later in the year.

He has an interesting story which I will write about once I'm done with my research.

Regards

Rory

Yours is probably the correct one Frank - I am prone to adding letters to names ;)

It is certainly a lovely medal, I can't remember the last time I actually saw one outside of the London salerooms, they have all disappeared from the many provincial fairs here, I only very seldom see examples of the medal and clasp these days, yet it does not seem all that long ago when you could simply just go out and choose half a dozen fine ones in a single day.
