The 8th Hussars arrived in South Africa in March 1900 and served throughout the war.

QSA (3) Orange Free State, Transvaal, South Africa 1902 (5762 L. Corpl: J. G. Wayne. 8th Hussars.) clasps a little buckled;
1914-15 Star (Major J. G. Wayne. P.P.C.L.I.);
BWM and VM (Major J. G. Wayne.)

Joseph George Wayne was born in Derbyshire in January 1870. He served with the 8th Hussars during the Second Boer War, before emigrating to Canada as a farmer. Wayne settled in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan and was commissioned in the 11th Battalion Canadian Infantry at Valcartier, Quebec in September 1914. He served on the Western Front, prior to transferring to Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry, 16 May 1916.

Wayne subsequently transferred to the 8th Battalion Canadian Infantry, and died in October 1937.

There is a QSA out there somewhere.
Medal roll WO100 /115 3 clasps CC /OFS & Transvaal.
2 medal rolls for his KSA one dated 30th June 1904 Aldershot WO 100/303
and the other dated 21st December 1904 ...41 Pall Mall....note :- Discharged by purchase.
The other KSA paper work has L/Corporal Airey embarkation date as 27/7/1900 & Home 27/3/1902 in remarks.

In addition to his service papers. In 1895 George was mentioned in the N.S.W Australian Gazette.
1st Garrison Division Artillery: - George Cyril Vivian Airey, Gentleman, to be Supernumerary, Second Lieutenant on probation in the partially paid batteries.
He resigned his commission in 1897. George died in 1919 and is buried in Fielding cemetery Manawatu – Wanganui New Zealand aged 41.
