Two ABO medals named Burgher P. S. W. Coetzer

Only a single “Vorm B” medal application has been located although the published Forsyth Medal Roll includes the names of both Burgher Pieter Schalk W. Coetzer and Burgher Pieter Schalk Willem Coetzer.

Seemingly both Burghers served in the Wakkerstroom Commando, the surviving “Vorm B” medal application dated November 1921 recording that the applicant served from 1 November 1899 until his capture 28 July 1901 after which he was sent as a POW to Bermuda.

He is recorded as fighting at Ladysmith, Colenso, Boschrand, Tafelkop, Ver Rivier, Zandrivier, Allemansnek, Averspoort and Strydkraal.

The relevant Prisoner of War record reflects that he was captured at Volksrust on 4 January 1902.
