Served in Zulu and Tvl. Campaigns. Came to S.A. as a newspaper correspondent hoping to get an appointment. He was then in the Army Reserve and after acting as Transport Officer to Major Grey's Column in Matabele War without pay was appointed by High Comm. Captain in the Bechuanaland Border Police and made Magistrate at Tati. In 1894 he was selected as the Representative of Her Majesty's Government on the Matabeleland Land Commission under the Order in Council July 1894 and in August 1894 War Office seconded him for that employment. The Commission was dissolved in January 1895 and Capt. Lindsell was afterwards made Magistrate of the Victoria District by the B.S.A. Co.
